Meredith Talks Temple Filler: What you should know about this advanced treatment

A Skin CoLAB Clinical Insight

When most people think about facial aging, they think about the cheeks, jawline, or lips. But one of the most important and often overlooked areas of the face is the temple.

Recently, one of our team members received temple treatment while our providers observed and discussed technique in real time. It was a great reminder of how much anatomical knowledge and strategy goes into even a small area of the face.

We thought you might enjoy understanding what we’re thinking about when we treat this region.

Why Do Temples Hollow?

As we age, several changes happen in the temple area:

  • Natural loss of fat volume

  • Subtle changes in bone structure

  • Thinning of the skin

  • Slight drooping of the outer brow

When the temples hollow, the upper face can start to look more angular or “skeletonized.”

Restoring this area helps create:

  • Softer facial contours

  • Better support of the outer brow- less crow's feet and lateral forehead wrinkles

  • A more balanced transition between forehead and cheeks (aka cheeks look better)

  • Overall facial harmony

Temple treatment is often subtle, but it can make a significant difference.

Why Is the Temple Area Treated Carefully?

The temple is an advanced injection area because important blood vessels run through it. While complications are rare, this region requires:

  • Detailed knowledge of anatomy

  • Careful product selection

  • Thoughtful injection technique

At Skin CoLAB, safety is always our priority. Our providers carefully assess each patient’s anatomy, use specific injection planes designed to reduce risk, and inject slowly and conservatively.

This is not an area for aggressive or rushed treatment, precision matters.

Why We Often Choose Sculptra for the Temples

While traditional fillers (hyaluronic acid) provide immediate volume, we most often prefer Sculptra in the temple area.

Why?

Because temple hollowing is usually a broad, structural volume loss, not just a small indentation that needs filling.

Sculptra works by stimulating your own collagen production over time. That means:

  • Gradual, natural-looking improvement

  • Diffuse softening rather than a single “bolus” of filler

  • Improved skin thickness and quality

  • Long-lasting structural support

Instead of simply adding volume, Sculptra helps rebuild a foundation.

In select cases, traditional filler may be appropriate, but we carefully weigh the risks and benefits before choosing the best option.

How We Inject (And Why It Matters)

When treating the temples, our providers place product deeply, along the bone. This deeper placement:

  • Avoids more superficial blood vessels

  • Creates smoother structural support

  • Reduces the risk of visible irregularities

  • Enhances safety

We also:

  • Use a discreet entry point along the hairline

  • Inject slowly and in small amounts

  • Take a conservative approach

  • Often stage treatment over multiple visits

Temple restoration should look natural, never puffy or overdone.

The Bigger Picture

Temples are never treated in isolation.

They affect:

  • Brow position

  • Eye framing

  • Cheek projection

  • Overall facial balance

Subtle temple restoration can lift and soften the upper face without anyone knowing exactly what changed, just that you look refreshed.

We love giving you a peek behind the curtain at the thought process behind our treatments. Every injection is intentional. Every decision is anatomy-driven. Every plan is individualized.

If you’ve ever wondered whether temple treatment could benefit you, we’re happy to assess and guide you.
