Sculptra at SkinCoLAB: The Science of True Skin Regeneration

Updated: 17 hours ago

At SkinCoLAB in dowtown Ada, we believe in treatments that do more than just fill lines—they should help your skin function better, look healthier, and age more gracefully. That’s exactly why we love Sculptra, a powerful biostimulator we use to restore natural volume and improve skin quality over time.

Now, a recent study gives us even more reason to be excited about what Sculptra can do—not just on the surface, but deep within the skin.

The Study: How Does Sculptra Compare to Other Injectables?

Researchers recently conducted a 13-week clinical trial comparing two injectable biostimulators:

  • PLLA-SCA (Sculptra)

  • CaHA-R (Calcium Hydroxylapatite, commonly known as Radiesse)

The goal? To understand how each product influences skin on a genetic level. Participants received injections in the nasolabial folds (those smile lines between the nose and mouth), and biopsies were analyzed at Day 0, Day 28, and Day 90 to assess changes in gene expression.

Here’s what they found:

  • Both treatments impacted collagen production, but Sculptra went a step further.

  • Sculptra uniquely upregulated genes associated with adipocyte regeneration—in other words, the regrowth of healthy fat cells, which is key to youthful, supple skin.

  • This gene activity was not observed with CaHA-R.

What Does That Mean for You?

Sculptra’s ability to activate these genes means it may regenerate the underlying structure of your face, not just temporarily fill volume. According to the study, this "regenerative mechanism of action" could support long-term skin rejuvenation by improving both collagen and subdermal fat.

This isn’t just theory—it’s why many clients see longer-lasting, more natural results with Sculptra, and why their skin continues to look healthier months after treatment.

Even more exciting? The study showed that the adipokines—regenerative proteins linked to fat cell activity—also had a positive impact on overall skin health.
