You Can Still Tan with Sunscreen!

We have all heard the myth: “If I wear sunscreen, I won’t get any color.”

But here is the truth – no sunscreen can block 100% of UV rays. Even with SPF your skin can still produce melanin in response to sunlight. That means you can get a nice glow (without the damage). The real difference with skin with SPF vs without? Wearing high-quality SPF means you can achieve a healthy summer glow without the painful, dangerous skin damage that can lead to premature aging and a higher risk of skin cancer.

Here are a few sunscreens we carry and would recommend to our patients:

  • Alastin HydraTint SPF  36 (Bestseller!): This is our holy grail for a reason! It is a lightweight, tinted formula that blends completely into the skin with no white cast. Giving you a dewy, even complexion, your skin barrier will stay protected.

  • Skinbetter Science Tone Smart SPF 75: Not only does this sunscreen provide a high level of UV protection against UVA and UVB Rays, it also leaves you with a flawless finish. The tinted mineral formula uses smart technology to adapt beautifully to your natural skin tone, while offering high duty coverage.

  • Skinbetter Science Sheer SPF 70: A beautiful, ultra lightweight option if you prefer a clean, natural finish without any tint. We love this for the sporty gal, guy or child.

  • Bask Mineral Spray SPF 30: Offered in many different forms, Bask’s mineral non-aerosol spray is the most popular of their line. Pro-tip: This product is thicker than most spray sunscreen, and we recommended to spray into your hands before applying. Additionally, we carry the Big Bask Lotion SPF 30, and Suncare Sunscreen Stick SPF 50. Both of which are easy lightweight products to use on the daily.

  • Saint Jane Sun Ritual Mineral SPF 30 (NEW!): Perfect as a primer under foundation, this clean mineral formula blurs the look of pores and is perfect on all skin tones. We can't wait for you to try it.

Before you go, a few SPF pro tips:

  1. Don’t forget to reapply throughout the day. Sunscreen breaks down in the sun and washes off in the water. We recommend reapplication every 60-80 minutes or after a swim.

  2. Don’t skip on overcast days – up to 80% of UV rays pass though clouds and daily protection is a year-round job!
